Sunday morning worship

Our people

Our congregation includes people from all backgrounds and in all stages of life, from single young adults, to the newly married, from young families, to middle age as well as those who have been part of this historic church for decades. Regardless of your age or demographic, we want to help you get connected in meaningful relationships here at Hinson. Given our wide diversity of age, on any given Sunday morning, you’ll find anything from jeans and sweatshirts, to suits and ties.

Our music

As those who have come to know God’s forgiveness, we love to sing His praises. Together, as a church, we want to give glory to God for the grace He has shown to us through Jesus Christ. We do this through a blend of old hymns and contemporary songs, all declaring the truth of who God is and what He has done. While we have a variety of musicians and vocalists assisting us, the main “instrument” of our singing is the congregation, as we lift our collective voices together in worship to God.

Our Preaching

We believe that God speaks today through His Word and each Sunday we anticipate hearing from Him. Therefore, the main event of our Sunday morning worship is the preaching of God’s Word. Rather than simply hearing the preacher’s ideas on a topic, his intent will be to open up the Bible and help to understand its relevance for our lives. If you don’t have a Bible, we are happy to provide one for you. Our hope is that in hearing God’s Word and receiving it by faith, you will encounter God Himself, in all of His glory and goodness.

OUR CHILDREN

Childcare or classes are provided for children of all ages during our first hour adult education. During the main service, childcare is provided for ages birth through 4 years old. We place a high priority on security and safety and all our childcare volunteers and teachers are trained and screened. Children can be checked into their classes at the children's desk. You can find it by using the entrance on Salmon Street. or by walking through our lobby then downstairs.

Children in Kindergarten and 1st grade are dismissed to class during the offering and can be picked up in room at the end of the service. A cry room is available for babies and carers at the back of the auditorium behind the sound booth. Children older than 1st grade are invited to be part of the entire worship service. Feel free to ask the welcome desk for direction your first visit.

Ordinances

The first Sunday every month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper at the conclusion of our service. In partaking of the bread and the cup, we remember how our Lord gave His body and blood for our salvation, and has united us together into one body. Likewise, as we have opportunity, we also celebrate the ordinance of Baptism at the conclusion of our service. As those being baptized profess their faith, we are able to observe this wonderful picture of a Christian’s union with Christ, as we are symbolically buried with Him in death, and raised with Him to new life.

Stay and get to know us

After the service, we hope you will stick around and give us a chance to get to know you. Our members enjoy staying to talk to visitors and catching up with friends, so feel free to introduce yourself to someone around you. From time to time, we have lunch and potlucks, which any visitor would be welcome to attend. Also, you can stop by our community hall or coffee cart for refreshments and to browse our bookstall. If you want to learn more about the church, feel free to talk to one of the pastors at the door or stop by the welcome desk.

Sunday evening prayer meeting

We gather as a church on Sunday evenings at 5:00pm for our congregational prayer meeting. This is our time to hear about various things going on in the life of the church, and to pray together for them as a church.

The service begins with a time of singing followed by a time of sharing.  We hear from members about various corporate or individual ministries and needs that exist within our church. We then move into a time of prayer, as various people are called on to pray for all the items that were shared. If you’re a visitor or uncomfortable with praying in public, don’t worry… You won’t be called on to pray! After our time of prayer, there is a brief 15-minute devotional from God’s Word, further applying what we heard in the morning.

If you’re interested in learning more about the community of Hinson Baptist Church, our Sunday evening service is a great way to do that. All are welcome!
