Local Outreach
Located here in the Hawthorne District, we hope to be a good neighbor to those around us, while engaging them with the truth of the gospel. From hosting a weekly Farmer’s Market (when it’s warm!), to our annual bike tune-up event, to volunteering and partnering with the local Buckman school, we hope to both proclaim and demonstrate the love of Christ to our community.
For more information on how you can be involved in our local outreach, contact Jim Evernden at 503-232-1156.
Hinson Summer Camp
Instead of MAC Camp, Hinson is launching a new summer camp this summer that will run from July 9-13, 2012. There will be many similarities with MAC Camp in year’s past but also a few changes.
Visit the newly launched (in progress) camp website.
More details on this camp will come later. Contact Camp Director Peggy Staples at: pstaples[at]q.com with any questions.
Buckman SUN
Given our proximity to Buckman Elementary, we've been able to form a close partnership with that school, as we volunteer in tutoring, cleaning, providing school supplies and various other ways. Jim Evernden and Hinson Baptist Church was recently awarded the Power of One Award by Impact Northwest for our involvement in the community. We're grateful for the award and continue to look for ways to effectively serve our neighbors.
Eastside Encounters
One of the ways we hope to engage our community with the gospel is through our Eastside Encounters. These are occasional talks, where we invite the community to hear an address on a topic of general interest, and then open the floor for dialogue. Some past topics that have been:
- Jesus Unedited: A Talk on the Historical Jesus
- Hell? A Presentation on our Fate and the Love of God
- Freedom in the Groove: Jazz and the Gospel
