Ed Velure - Deacon of Bookstall

Ed is a retired teacher/logger/shrimp fisherman. Married to his first wife for 46 years and now enjoying serving in Hinson's bookstall.

Terry Evernden - Deacon of Global Worker Care

Terry and her husband, Jim, met each other in a church kindergarten class and married 15 years later. In 1981 they took their 2 children to Zaire (now Congo) where they served for 14 years as missionaries. She retired after working for 19 years in our church office and now serves with Jim as hosts at Hinson's Eastside Inn. Terry loves spending time with family - especially their three grandchildren - and exploring America with Jim in their convertible.

Jane Ruhl - Deacon of Hospitality

Bill & Jane Ruhl have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren and are owners of a pest control company, Bee Control N.W.. Jane accepted Christ as her Savior at age 7 and has been a member of Hinson since 1974. Her spiritual gift is helps and she enjoys looking for the everyday evidences of God's love and grace in our lives. As Deacon of Hospitality, she organizes the use of our kitchen and dining facilities for church-wide events.

Barb Velure - Deacon of the Library

Barb is a retired accountant and married to her first husband for 46 years. Her passion is children's ministry and reading the Puritans.

Margi Chesbro - Deacon of Member Care

Margi and her husband Brett were married in 1987 and have two grown sons and a grandson. She grew up attending a small church in Idaho and joined Hinson in 2004. Margi served as a Deaconess for several years before becoming Deacon of Member Care. She counts it a privilege to serve her church family and with God's help she strives to be obedient to Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Margi works full-time, rides motorcycles, enjoys paper crafts and is a big NFL fan.

Jon Schnur - Deacon of Member Care II

Jon married his wife Holly in 2008 and they have two boys. He grew up in a Christian home and came to faith when he was 16. He has been involved in various aspects of church ministry since graduating from a christian university in 2007. Jon is passionate about providing practical care to the members of Hinson and loves that his role as Deacon of Member Care requires him to develop meaningful relationships with the members of Hinson. Jon works in dental sales. Outside of work he loves spending time with his family, playing basketball and doing some sort of woodworking project.

Steve Parks - Deacon of Ordinances

Steve and his wife, Liz, have 3 children. Steve was raised in a Christian home where his family was active in their church. Steve accepted Christ at an early age. After graduating from Oregon Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Systems, he moved to Portland and started attending Hinson in 1988. He has served in children’s, youth and missions ministries for many of his years at Hinson. Steve’s current responsibilities at Hinson include the preparation of communion, scheduling servers and assisting during baptisms. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, running and biking.

Tim Mills - Deacon of Sound

Tim and Ashley have been married for 8 years and have two kids. Tim grew up going to church with his family and became a Christian when he was 13. He has a degree in Economics from West Texas A&M University. After college he served two years in France as a short-term missionary. At Hinson, Tim works with volunteers to meet the weekly sound needs of the church. He currently work as a manager at Starbucks and is a student at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

Rob Haug - Deacon of Ushers

Rob and his wife, Jennifer, were married in September, 1994. They met while they were in the youth group at Hinson. They have a daughter and a son. Rob does not have a specific date when he became a follower of Jesus, but it was during his high school years that he recognized the assurance of Christ’s salvation for his life and developed a desire to follow Him. He counts Philippians 2:12 among his favorite verses, as he strives to follow Christ in obedience. He has many interests, including reading, watching TV and movies, or just hanging out with friends and family. He enjoys hockey (Pittsburgh Penguins), basketball (Blazers), and is convinced that college basketball’s March Madness is the greatest sporting event ever conceived, forcing his wife to be a “March Madness widow” for ten days every year.
